Call for Choreographers

Deadline To Apply: May 1, 2025

Alberta Dance Theatre is looking for passionate and creative professional and emerging choreographers who are interested in collaborating with the Alberta Dance Theatre Youth Artists to create work for our Fall 2025 Production.

Each production is based off of a piece of children's literature. Choreographers will be tasked with facilitating ideas from the Youth Artists to interpret a moment of the book through movement, text and imagery. Each piece is between 3-4 minutes, does not have to be genre specific, and is created over the course of 4-5 weeks on Sundays in the Fall. The main goal of the choreographer is to introduce improvisation, creation, and composition skills to the Youth Artists to help facilitate their own journey through the arts.

Choreographers will have the chance to work with a composer and receive a copy of the novel to prep their part in the production before the season begins. They will be asked to contribute costuming, prop and other production design ideas in areas relevant to their piece to the Co-Artistic Directors in a timely manner. Choreographers will pass on lighting requests to our professional lighting designer and have the option to attend show run throughs, tech rehearsals, and dress rehearsals.
Successful choreographers on the ADT Creative Team have an enthusiasm for and experience in mentoring youth in grades 1-12. The ability to accept and shape many ideas while tolerating a small amount of chaos is an asset.
